SK C&C and Glassdome Partner to Deliver Net-Zero Platform

SK C&C, the information and communications technology (ICT) division of SK Inc., announced the selection of Glassdome to power their carbon emissions and life-cycle assessment (LCA) platform, amidst rapidly-changing global environmental regulations.

The ‘digital net-zero platform’ will help SK C&C’s customers, including many SK Group affiliates, more easily collect, analyze, and predict greenhouse gas emissions along their business value chains.  Comprising over 200 companies, SK Group affiliates recorded $50 billion in exports in 2021.

Glassdome’s LCA solution, including Scope 3 emissions from upstream suppliers, helps manufacturers comply with the EU’s new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which goes into preliminary effect on October 1.  The CBAM requires EU companies in six energy-intensive industries to purchase emissions certificates if they exceed specified standards in the import of manufactured products: cement, iron & steel, aluminum, fertilizer, electricity, and hydrogen.

SK On, which accounts for roughly 5% of global EV battery production and has invested billions into new facilities in the United States, also plans to use the Glassdome platform to prepare for new EU regulations governing emissions and labor conditions in the EV battery supply chain.

“We will help domestic companies, including export manufacturers, overcome the waves of global environmental regulations through digital net zero services based on carbon data collection tailored to companies,” said Joon Park, head of SK C&C’s Digital Tech Center.
